Woven

Woven

A double bill performance of work by Subhash Viman Gorania (Morph Dance Company) which could include EKA, Metamorphic or Fly From. Subhash has an ability to combine styles in a liquid way gives his dance an unorthodox and quirky edge. This programme offers three different choreographic works, informed by living in two cultural styles of music and dance forms.

LOWRY 24 TH APRIL 7.30pm

This programme offers three different choreographic works comprising of Priye Charusheele, EKA and Fly From: combining classical Bharatanatyam dance solos with contemporary dance choreography, informed by living in two cultural styles of music and dance forms.

PRIYE CHARUSHEELE

A story of just one night, a night highly charged with emotions and passions. There is loneliness and longing, flirtation and jealousy, anger and pride and above all, the tenderness of love. Krishna cajoles and flatters Radha, displaying his passion for her.

Choreography / Concept: Chitraleka Bolar

Performer: Subhash Viman Gorania

Music Composer and Singer: Sikkil Gurucharan & Anil Srinivasan

Lighting Design: Hector Murray

EKA

Three hypnotic dancers transform from their individual styles to become a combined force as they interact and influence each other’s energies. They reveal the delicate inner and turbulent outer balance that forms our singular world.

Choreography:  Subhash Viman Gorania

Performers: Anaya Bolar, Emiko Jane Ishii & Kesha Raithatha

Lighting Design: Sam Burns

Choreographic Mentor: Saju Hari

Artistic Adviser:  Gary Clarke

Costume: Giulia Scrimieri

Visual Design: G Sian & Lorna Dunn

Metamorphic

Metamorphic creates a seriously playful work, exploring the multiple identities of a modern man, trying to find his way of adopting or adapting to ideologies of nationalism, religion and culture.

Choreography: Subhash Viman Gorania and Veena Basavarajaiah

Performed by:  Subhash Viman Gorania

Lighting Design: Andy Hamer

‘To watch Metamorphic choreographed by Veena Basavarajaiah and Subhash is with a sense of wonder; it shifts constantly. Subhash’s dance and the lighting’s transformative skills are compelling. Subhash uses his fast, fluidly-moving arms snaking in and out of the shaft of diagonal light leaving movement trails, until caught in an astonishingly beautiful Krishna pose.’

FLY FROM

‘In the end, you are only left with your flesh and bones’

Fly From explores the habits of resistance that linger in mind and body when trying to break free. In times of change and uncertainty, this physical journey grows from animalistic roots to reaching nirvana when challenged by displacement and detachment from within.

Choreography: Saju Hari

Performed by: Subhash Viman Gorania

Lighting Design:  Sam Burns

As a major talent emerging from Leicester’s ever-growing international dance community, Subhash’s work effortlessly fuses both classical Indian dance practice and contemporary forms. There is real sophistication of technical, design and musical languages; and the work is dramaturgically robust and accessible.
