Artful Migration

An artist-in-residence programme exploring the relationship between art, people, and migratory species in Dumfries & Galloway.

About the Artful Migration

Artful Migration is an artist-in-residence programme that brings together contemporary artists, local communities, and the natural world.

Focused on the lives and journeys of migratory species in Dumfries & Galloway, the programme invites artists to create new work that responds to the environment, sparks dialogue, and deepens our connection to the landscapes we share.

Developed by Moving Souls Dance in partnership with Upland arts agency and other cultural and environmental organisations, Artful Migration nurtures early-career and established artists alike, offering space for creative research, community engagement, and artistic exploration. At its heart, the programme is about using creativity as a bridge — connecting people to place, ecology to imagination, and culture to conservation.

4th Residency

Coulson & Tennant

We are excited to announce the 2026 artists in residency will be Coulson & Tennant. Saskia Coulson and Colin Tennant are an artist partnership based in Dumfries and Galloway. Their lens-based practice blends genres of documentary and fine art and is rooted in visual storytelling, environmental engagement, and activism. Through their work, they aim to connect communities and audiences by depicting fragile ecosystems and raising awareness of the critical environmental challenges they face.
